Written off debt

Good day<br> <br> I have a debt which has been written off by Russells last year, according to the report I have recently received from Transunion. I received a call from somebody who called himself Tom and he claimed to have been calling me from Russells. In my opinion, if the debt has been written off I should not pay the account further. How does this work?
