J&J - can cause cancer

Why is J&J products still on our shelves in South Africa? Their own expert and documents prove that they have been aware of asbestos in their products since 1973. My mother used J&J products on me since 1976 when I was born until I was a teenager! Why is cancer becoming more prevalent amongst my peers? Am I at risk? J&J SA and our Consumer Board have been deafeningly silent about the multi-billion dollar lawsuit awarded against J&J in the USA and the impact on SA. I have made it my duty to inform everyone I know NOT to use these products. I am disgusted that a trusted brand used to care for our children could sacrifice our lives for a rand! Down J&J down!!

Good morning Consumer

Thank you for your interest in our company.

Johnson & Johnson is deeply disappointed in the verdict, which was the product of a fundamentally unfair process that allowed plaintiffs to present a group of 22 women, most of whom had no connection to Missouri, in a single case all alleging that they developed ovarian cancer. The result of the verdict, which awarded the exact same amounts to all plaintiffs irrespective of their individual facts, and differences in applicable law, reflects that the evidence in the case was simply overwhelmed by the prejudice of this type of proceeding. We respect the legal process and have sympathy for anyone diagnosed with any form of cancer, but jury verdicts are not medical, scientific or regulatory conclusions about a product.

Johnson & Johnson remains confident that its products do not contain asbestos and do not cause ovarian cancer and intends to pursue all available appellate remedies. In the U.S., cosmetic talc has been required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be asbestos-free since the 1970s.

Every verdict against Johnson & Johnson in this court that has gone through the appeals process has been reversed and the multiple errors present in this trial were worse than those in the prior trials which have been reversed.”

Our position remains unchanged. Safety has always been our top priority. For more information, please feel free to visit the below links:
