Exceptionally poor service
On the 27th November 2019 I joined 12 companions for a meal at John Dory's, Springs Mall for a meal. The first of us arrived at 17h45 to ensure that we got a table.
An incredibly inexperienced learner waitress was assigned to the table and left completely unassisted by anyone.
She didn't introduce herself. When new members joined the table she didn't come and take a drink order, she had to be fetched. The manager was finally called to get her to take our food orders by 19h00. She took the orders but didn't lay out the table with cutlery and crockery. Myself and a few other table members eventually cleared the empty glasses and tins off our table on to the next table.
A few of us, myself included, ordered hot meals, while the balance of the table ordered sushi. I ordered a steak and calamari combo and a friend ordered another steak dish. Both of us ordered onion rings on the side. Our food was prepared and ready and left standing at the serving area while our waitress waited for the sushi. She then started bringing the sushi, but no one had the platters, ******, wasabi, soy sauce or any form of cutlery so they couldn't start. Eventually we asked that she please bring the hot meals. My steak was ice cold and tough and my onion rings were cold. I also didn't get any sauce at all. I sent them back. My friend with the steak with cheese sauce sent hers back because they gave her mushroom sauce with Jalapenos instead of the cheese sauce she ordered. Hers was also ice cold.
I would love to have ordered dessert, but since I finally got to gulp down my meal at 22h00 when the place was closing, it was not possible to order one. The steak I finally got was at least hot, but tough and flavourless (although with the intervention of what I believe was the assistant manager I at least got the sauce I paid for) and my second batch of onion rings was also cold, but it was so late I simply ate them.
The blame cannot be placed on a very inexperience waitress here, why on earth was she assigned completely unaided by an experienced person or better still the manager (who met us once and then left the restaurant completely)? She was completely overwhelmed and quickly lost control of the table. The training and supervision are at fault. The serving personnel are the company's face to the public, please address your training!
I spent R230 as part of a R2760 bill including the tip, and it was frankly a complete waste of money.
