Fence Damage Claim: Final Outcome, But No Closure

This is a follow-up to my earlier review about a JJ Maritz truck that crashed into my boundary fence in April 2025.

After the initial incident, I submitted three repair quotes as requested, but my WhatsApp messages were ignored. I had to drive to their offices in Kempton Park twice just to get a response.

They made a first offer of R12,000, which I declined. I then posted reviews on HelloPeter and Google Maps. A second offer of R15,000 followed, which I also declined. I issued a letter of demand by registered mail and eventually opened a case with the Small Claims Court.

The full amount of R17,250 was eventually paid to me in 22 small payments between 4 June and 23 July. On 23 July, I withdrew the case at the Randburg Magistrates Court.

While I did receive full compensation for the repair, I had to spend time, effort, and 1.5 days of my annual leave to achieve this and never received an apology or even a sign of empathy.

The worst part? The unroadworthy condition of the truck that caused the accident. This time only a fence was damaged. Next time, it could be a person.
