Jeep / McCarthy *******

Had the engine on my 2,5 CRD Jeep Liberty overhauled by the Jeep Brooklyn agent in April 2017 and it had 263197 kilometers on the clock. This engine overhaul cost my R72,000.00. From the day I got the car back from Jeep I had complaints about hard starting when cold, excessive smoking when starting, idling and riding in slow traffic. The other problem was no power on pull off and reversing. Within the 6 months guarentee period the car was more at jeep than in my garage so I never ever had a problem free period. Because there are no " mechanics" at Jeep except for " new part fitters " I spent another R30,000.00 on Jeeps advice by fitting new injectors, new high pressure fuel pump, changing the battery, having the starter overhauled and the list goes on. Eventually Jeep Brooklyn closed its doors and I still had the problem with the so called overhauled engine. I then went to Jeep Penta in Menlyn and I was turned away because they did not want to get involved, I then went to Jeep Centurion and the door was shut in face there as well. Then I decided to contact Jeep South Africa directly be email and they also refused to get involved. I then went to see a lawyer which cost me another R4,500.00 and he wrote directly to McCarthy and they never even had the decency to answer. I have now taken the car to a private garage and after hearing my story he sent the car for a compression test which cost another R2500.00 and the results were startling. The compression should be around 20psi in each cylinder, one was 17 and the other 3 were all below 15 and the one was as low as 10. He then did some investigations for me and found out that Jeep had actually farmed the engine out to a engineering company, when he spoke to them they remembered the engine and there was only a pert repair done to it ( obviously on one cylinder only ). This means that the egine has to be overhauled again and this is going to set me back another R25,000.00. Jeep service and after service is absolutely shocking to put it mildly, because Jeep SA and McCarthy SA condone this sort of service from their dealers speaks for itself. Their prices are probably in the top 3 most expensive in the country and if you go into one of the dealers one can see where 60% of what you pay for a service goes. Because I am an old age pensioner they obviously took me for an absolute ride and enjoyed doing it. I have done lost of research and cannot find a garage anywhere in SA that charges R100,000.00 to change one sleeve piston and rings. Nobody can seem to find out exactly what was done to the engine and those that know refuse to get involved. Hopefully someone from Jeep, Jeep SA and McCarthy reads this and feels a little guilty over the way I was treated, but they obviously all have a good nights sleep because they all condone this kind of practice as they enjoy feeding of pensioners who don't have the kinda of money to fight them in court.
