JBL USB cable

I bought the JBL E65BTNC headphones. With it comes a USB charging cable that has a different type of USB point, which can be inserted any side into an USB port. When I inserted it into the USB port on my HP laptop, it broke the plastic "tongue" of the USB port. It is that piece on which the copper contact strips are placed to make contact with whatever USB device is plugged into the port. Consequently, the USB port looses contact with whatever is plugged into it, rendering it useless.
