Taking advantage of elderly
Very unprofessional experience. My grandmother took her Hyundai Getz in to have a side mirror replaced. She was initially quoted around R1,500 before VAT, which came to roughly R1,800 for the mirror alone. I decided to do some checking myself and called the supplier they purchased the mirror from. The supplier confirmed the mirror cost them approximately R1,050 including VAT. I also researched multiple suppliers, and the retail price I found was generally no more than about R1,200 including VAT. The final invoice ended up being over R2,000 for what was essentially fitting the replacement mirror back onto the vehicle. Only after charging her were we told she should have taken the car to a panel beater instead. I understand businesses need to make a profit, but charging such a significant markup without being transparent, especially to an elderly customer, leaves a very poor impression. I would strongly recommend getting multiple quotes and checking the price of parts yourself before agreeing to any work.
