Unfair treatment by an *********, greedy business that used a convenient loophole to deny a valid claim.
I was insured by another insurer, when Iwyze called me offering a quotation in December 2022. I accepted the quote and cancelled my previous policy, with the new one taking effect 25 December.
During mid December, my car started misfiring due to a minor leak between the bonnet and windshield. As a result, I wasnt able to drive the car from then until mid January, as most panel beaters/auto mechanics were fully booked or closed until then. From parking under a tree, my car got very dirty and I couldn't wash it as this could have caused water to leak on the engine again. Because the car was so dirty, I held off on completing the inspection.
On 20 February, I was driven into on my way to work by someone that jumped the robot during load shedding. I didn't complete the vehicle inspection at this stage, and my car was assessed as a write off. A few days later my claim was rejected due to the inspection not having been completed, and I was told to pay R7,300 for storage, towing and the courtesy car I was given as part of my policy. They didnt do any work to determine what happened and whether I was covered. They also said that they would not assist with any third party claim and will be voiding my policy. The accident happened on 20 February, but Iwyze still deducted my full premium on 25 February, even though there was no asset left to insure. At a later stage, they advised that they would refund my premiums less the 3rd party cover, and less a refund admin fee of R450. When sending me a letter with the breakdown of my refund, they reduced the premium used in the calculation to an ''adjusted'' amount, lowering the refund due to me even further. I called to dispute this and requested an explanation for this and they couldn't provide one. They then said a manager would call me to explain it, but I never received this call. I then received a credit in my bank account for the amount of R500 on the letter provided to me previously. In total, I have lost out on the insured value of my car of just under R80,000, the R7,300 release fees to be paid to retrieve my car, and then also the R1500 of premiums was wasn't refunded for the 3 months.
These ****** are ********* and look for any opportunity or contractual loophole to deny cover for their 'clients'. They spent no time on my claim and from minute one knew they wouldnt cover me, using the lack of inspection as the perfect excuse. I know of other people insured by this company that werent requested to complete an inspection, showing a lack of consistency in their process. The only thing that is consistent is their effort to ***** people with valid claims over, not considering any mitigating factors at all.
If they had approved my claim, they would have recovered all their costs from the other insurer. Now I must be left without our family's only car and fighting for third party cover all on my own, with no available footage and witnesses. I would never recommend these ****** to anyone. I wont ever support any Old Mutual initiative or endeavor again in my life, and I would rather go without retirement savings than leave a cent with these ******s. Utterly disgusted; I wouldn't recommend them to the devil himself.
