Stay away from Old Mutual insurance!!

I put in a claim on 5 May 2023 for damage to my car via the Pineapple app (Underwritten by Old Mutual). After sending PICTURES of my damage to the assessors (as somehow it is believed you can assess car damage via pictures) I received an email from Old Mutual rejecting my claim as they say amount the assessors quoted is less than my excess. I asked for the amount the assessors quoted and it was less than half of the cheapest quote I received from panel beaters. I was then told they base the assessment on Auto Magic Panel beaters.

I then took my car to Auto Magic Panel beaters who ended up quoting me almost double what the assessors said it would cost. I forwarded this to Old Mutual and Pineapple and they gave me a reference number and haven't bothered to follow up since.

I received my Old Mutual complaint reference number on 19 May 2023 and today is 30 May 2023 with absolutely no further correspondence despite me trying to follow up.

So basically you rejected my claim under the premise that the damage can be repaired for less than my excess which I have now proven to be incorrect with the same panel beaters you based your rejection on in the first place.

Now Old Mutual & Pineapple are ignoring me and I have had to go via the insurance ombudsman who has opened a case. Why must this get so ugly and complicated for everyone involved??

My father worked for Old Mutual for 15+ years and I have investments with them so thought they would be reliable but they seem to be yet another insurer who will promise you the world until it is time to claim and then it is a STRUGGLE.
