Misleading Financial Representation: A Path to Emotional Distress
Hello Peter Date of Incident: Tuesday, 23 September 2025 Service/Product: Powerball Plus Winnings Payout / Capitec Banking App Reference/Ticket Number QLEA***7 Title: Significant Discrepancy in Powerball Plus Payout - Banking App Glitch and Conflicting Information from Capitec and Ithuba I am writing to express my severe disappointment and frustration regarding a substantial discrepancy in my Powerball Plus winnings payout, which I played via the Capitec banking app on Tuesday, 23 September 2025. Summary of Incident: * Initial Winnings Displayed: Immediately after the draw, the Capitec banking app displayed my Powerball Plus winnings as follows: * 3 Numbers (42, 50, 18) and the Powerball: R6,578.50 * 2 Numbers (42, 50): R615.00 * Total Expected Payout (Displayed): R7,193.50 * Actual Payout Received: I only received a total payout of R49.40. * Conflicting Support: * Capitec: When I contacted Capitec, I was informed that the discrepancy was due to a "glitch on Ithuba's side" and that they would get back to me. * Ithuba: Upon calling Ithuba, I was explicitly told that "the mistake is in Capitec's side" and that I should check their website for accurate payout readings. * Verification and App Fix: I checked the official Ithuba website, and the posted winnings did not correspond with what was initially displayed on the Capitec app, confirming an error on the app's display. The so-called "glitch" on the Capitec app was only fixed three days later. Impact and Complaint: The delayed fix and the conflicting information from both Capitec and Ithuba have caused considerable stress and hassle. Crucially, the initial display of a significant win led to plans for my family, which have now been entirely invalidated by receiving a fraction of the amount. While I understand that technical glitches can occur, the following points are unacceptable: * Massive Discrepancy: The difference between the displayed R7,193.50 and the received R49.40 is extreme and suggests a fundamental failure in the integration or communication between Capitec and Ithuba's systems. * Conflicting Accountability: Being passed back and forth between Capitec and Ithuba, with each party blaming the other, is poor customer service and a dereliction of responsibility in addressing a serious financial error. * Damage Caused by Misrepresentation: I have photographic proof of the original winning amount displayed on the Capitec app. Capitec's system provided a figure that was materially incorrect for three days, causing significant emotional and planning distress. This incident, coupled with the runaround received, leads me to believe that there is a severe lack of control and transparency in this lottery purchasing process. I require an official, detailed explanation from Capitec regarding the precise nature of the "glitch," why the incorrect amount was displayed for so long, and what steps will be taken to compensate for the emotional distress and substantial inconvenience caused by this misleading financial representation. I demand a professional investigation and a resolution to this matter.
