Unfair Late Notice Fee Charged Despite Lack of Landlord Communication – Ithemba Property
I am extremely disappointed with the poor communication and service I’ve received from Ithemba Property Management regarding the end of my lease agreement.
Despite the lease requiring proactive communication from the landlord to inform the tenant of the lease expiry, I received no written notice reminding me that my lease was ending. This notice is critical in helping tenants make informed decisions and submit the required 20-business-day notice in time.
Due to this lack of communication from Ithemba, I was unable to submit my notice as expected. Now, I am being charged a R3,077 “late notice” fee, which I find completely unjust and unreasonable. I have raised this issue multiple times, clearly explaining that the absence of a reminder directly contributed to my delayed notice – yet my question about the landlord’s responsibility remains unanswered.
I’ve asked for clarity and a fair resolution, including a waiver of the late notice fee under these circumstances. To date, I have received no meaningful feedback or acknowledgement of any responsibility on Ithemba’s part.
This situation reflects poor tenant communication, lack of accountability, and disregard for customer service. I urge Ithemba to respond fairly and resolve this matter by removing the fee and ensuring proper lease communication processes are in place moving forward.
Desired Outcome: • A formal acknowledgement of the landlord’s responsibility in the lease communication breakdown • A waiver of the R3,077 late notice fee • Assurance that future tenants will be properly notified of lease expiry timelines
Please be advised that as per your ticket logged with us on *** (Ticket #275344), we did escalate the matter and find that there was no communication to you 40 days before your lease expires as per your lease contract with us.
Upon investigation, management has approved that the late notice fee get waived as we process your notice. We trust the above is in order.
Kind Regards
