Self-help/******** conduct by Ithemba property
I am extremely disappointed with the service from Ithemba. Cutting off a tenant’s electricity due to non-payment is not only *********, but a clear violation of tenant rights under South African law.
A landlord or managing agent cannot simply switch off utilities as a form of punishment or pressure. This kind of action amounts to ******** eviction tactics and harassment. Tenants have the right to access essential services like electricity, and any disputes over rent must be handled through the proper legal channels—not by taking matters into their own hands.
This experience has been stressful and unacceptable. Instead of following due process, Ithemba chose to act outside the law, which reflects very poorly on their professionalism and respect for tenants.
I would strongly caution others before dealing with them, as this kind of behavior shows a disregard for basic legal obligations and tenant dignity.

As a company, we strive to maintain positive relationships with our tenants and operate in full compliance with South African property laws. We do not actively deactivate or restrict access to essential utilities such as water or electricity due to outstanding payments.
Please note that certain non-essential services, such as visitor access via the app and WiFi, may be subject to automated deactivation. However, essential utilities remain unaffected under all circumstances.
In most cases, disruptions to electricity or other utilities are the result of a maintenance issue within the unit. To allow us to investigate and resolve the matter promptly, we kindly ask that you log a maintenance request via the app. Once submitted, our maintenance team will be dispatched to assist you.
