Ithemba property Eyethu house Power Cut
I am appalled by the way Ithemba property runs their business and how we as tenants are treated, we do not have electricity as it was cut by city power stating that the building is alleged to be owing city power while we pay rent every month here at EYETHU HOUSE , how is such a big company owing city power and putting tenants at such an inconveniencing situation , children can’t study , family’s cannot cook , people wfh cannot work due to this inconvenience, we demand that this matter is treated with urgency as its people’s livelihood that is impacted , tenants are not getting satisfactory answers there is no sense of urgency or whatsoever.

We acknowledge your concerns regarding the recent electricity interruptions at Eyethu House and fully understand the inconvenience and frustration they have caused.
For clarity:
The disconnection that occurred on the 1st of October, was not due to non-payment or negligence by management. Eyethu House is protected by a standing court interdict (granted in 2023), which prohibits City Power (CP) and the City of Johannesburg (COJ) from disconnecting the building’s electricity supply while a billing dispute remains unresolved.
Despite this order, and despite us presenting up to date proof of payment of the latest accounts, CP, COJ and JMPD ********ly disconnected supply on Wednesday, 1 October at 12:30pm.
We acted with urgency:
Our attorneys escalated the matter immediately, securing confirmation from City Power within four hours that electricity would be restored.
Supply was reconnected by Thursday, 2 October at 12:00pm — within 24 hours of the ******** disconnection.
We are now proceeding with legal action to hold the responsible parties accountable for contempt of court, to prevent any recurrence of this ******** action.
We remain committed to protecting tenants’ rights and will keep you updated as this matter progresses and once again apologise for any inconvenience caused by this ******** disconnection.
