Barlow Park Estate

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the treatment I received on 04/05/2025 at Barlow Park/180 Katherine street, which I find unacceptable and unprofessional.

On the mentioned date, while I was on a call, a security officer knocked on my door and requested that I lower the volume. I acknowledged the request; however, just two minutes later, the security officer proceeded to switch off my electricity. This action was taken without prior warning or justification and is not stipulated in my contract as a valid consequence. I immediately informed the security officer that this was not in line with my agreement and that I would report the matter.

The following morning, I reported the incident at the reception area, and I was advised to speak with the building manager, Ms. Nelly Mabusela, for assistance. Unfortunately, when I approached Ms. Mabusela, I was met with unprofessional and rude behavior. She outrightly defended the security officer's actions, disregarding my valid concerns. It took over an hour before any assistance was provided, during which time I was unable to work, resulting in significant inconvenience and stress.

To make matters worse, the next morning I received a letter demanding that I pay a fine of R500 for noise disturbance. I find this not only unjust but also unreasonable considering the inconvenience and the unprofessional handling of the matter. I nearly lost my job due to the unexpected power disconnection and the prolonged delay in assistance, yet I am being penalized further with a fine.

I request that this matter be investigated thoroughly, and I urge you to review the conduct of both the security officer and Ms. Mabusela. Additionally, I would appreciate clarity on the justification for the R500 fine, given the circumstances. I also expect assurance that measures will be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

Good Day Vee,

Following my review of the incident presented by building manager, I have thoroughly assessed the conversation between the tenant and our team, as well as the relevant footage from the day in question.

The tenant acknowledged the possibility of a fine being issued, as confirmed in the message thread. Furthermore, CCTV footage shows that the tenant approaching the security control room to dispute the matter and proceeded to behave in an aggressive and unacceptable manner. This included swearing at the security personnel and striking the control room window with force and leaving.

It is important to note that this is not the first noise-related complaint received regarding this tenant. Additionally, the statements published on the recent HelloPeter review contain factual inaccuracies and do not reflect the full context of the incident. This should be reported as slander, as only her view being published.

We must reiterate that such behavior will not be tolerated at Barlow. The safety and dignity of our staff and residents are paramount. Appropriate action will be taken in line with the rules of conduct applicable to all residents.

Kind Regards,
Ithemba Property Management
