Is this an Apple ****?

After three years of use my Apple 1 series watch screen came lose. I had to waite for opportunity to get to Port Elizabeth as East London does not have I store. There I was told the battery was swollen and could not be replaced. I was told to chose a new watch for them to quote me on so that I could submit the quote to my insurance. Apple state that after 3 years watch is out of warranty. It cannot be repaired only replaced at customer cost. I would never have spent so much money on this watch if I had known it could not be repaired. Surely claiming from insurance for a manufacturing fault is *****? It seems Apple watch life expectancy is only three years. A quick search shows swollen battery common problem. Is this not same **** as Apple phone failures after software update so they can sell you new phone? Do Discovery not mind paying for their partners faulty equipment?
