This was my first experience using Intercape as I have been used to using their competitors Greyhound for long trips. Took a return trip to Botswana for the weekend of 06-09 September 2024. Smooth trip to Botswana , no issues. Though no onboard entertainment like radio or TV, all good. Return trip on the 9th, after waking up very early to board the the bus at 06:30, no breakfast or coffee, the bus got stuck just after crossing the border on the South African side. Bus has cambelt issues which we were told they knew of the previous bus. Question is why make us a board a defective bus and no communication to us? They make us stamp our passports and just after we eager to leave the bus won't move. As a car driver I am aware of the ad hoc issues transport vehicles can have but they knew the issues but still made us board the bus. Then we told the bus cannot move and we must wait for a replacement bus from Pretoria which will be there approximately after 5 hours. Imagine the inconvenience for those who had prior plans to connect flights or buses in Joburg, what about them. Even us who had plans for the day everything was dashed. No apology from the management but they have our numbers on their list. Mechanic cane 2 and half hours later and made a plan for us to replace the cambelt. We managed to at least move hours later and met the new bus at Zeerust. My trip lasted over 12 hours as I only got to Park Staion after 6pm. Till now no apology except for "we at least got home" from the hostess. To think that I always wanted to try riding Intercape for a long time, my view has totally changed. The inconsiderate customer service was just dumbfounding. Intercape, have respect for your customers or you will end up like Translux. My relationship with you is completely done, and I say that for most who experienced this ordeal. Never again.
