InterCape abandons elderly female passenger at a garage

On 23 May 2024, my grandmother purchased a ticket from King William's Town to Johannesburg, scheduled to depart at 6:30 PM. However, she was only allowed to board a bus at 8:30 PM. To make matters worse, the bus driver dropped her off at a garage, claiming she was not on the system. The garage staff called the police to take her into custody, leaving her stranded and vulnerable.

This is unacceptable on many levels, particularly considering my grandmother’s elderly status. The situation should have been handled with more care and compassion. Given the high crime rate in South Africa, it is appalling that a male driver would abandon an elderly woman in an isolated area, despite her having paid for her ticket.

We demanded a prompt solution to ensure my grandmother’s safe transportation to Johannesburg, as she is required to attend a family unveiling on Saturday and needs to arrive by Friday. And to this day, we are still waiting for a resolution.

The bus number involved was ***. We expect a swift response and resolution to this matter. If not, we will be forced to escalate the issue further. This bus driver was absolutely rude and denies the incident, which means he doesn’t see anything wrong with what he did. I am still waiting for a call from a Mr. Siba who promised to get back to me today at 11:30. I am truly saddened that they refuse to take accountability for what they put my grandmother through.
