I have recently lost my grandmother and my uncle in the past two weeks. I came back from Cape Town to bury my family members. In returning back to Cape Town from Kokstad, I encountered harrasment from the bus driver.
When the bus arrived, with the first come first serve new policy they implemented, I chose to sit downstairs because I would be traveling for 24hrs,the bus driver was shouting at me and insisting that I find a sit upstairs.
I then told him I am not feeling well, I have severe migraine, I suffer from depression and I am stressed as I just came back from two burials so need to sleep and rest. Can I please sit downstairs, he shouted and I ended up getting in regardless and sitting downstairs as I was not feeling well at all. In Port Elizabeth, we took a 15min break and I had a blunt with me that I smoke for medicinal purposes as it helps with migraine, anxiety and stress.
He came to where I was standing which was secluded as I know that I can't smoke in front of minors and people, he came shouting, telling me that I cannot enter the bus because I am smoking ****, he will call his boss to ensure that they leave me here.
He told the other bus driver to stop at the nearest police station which he did and I was then told by the police officers that they need to have a word with me in front of all the passengers. The humiliation and disrespect I felt entering a police station at 2am in the morning because I smoke was by far the worst experience ever.
The police officers explained and apologized to me and said I am violated because he had no right to take me to the police station at all as **** is legal and I didn't hard anyone in smoking it.
I have never experienced such treatment from a bus driver in all my years using this bus.
The bus number is 903,traveling from Kokstad to Cape Town on Thursday the 12th of August 2021.
In my broken state of losing loved ones in this Pandemic, being a bread winner at home and all the stress levels, I didn't know that using your service would make my life as difficult as this trip has been.
