A LOADSHEDDING EXCESS ON HOUSEHOLDER POLICY FROM INTEGRISURE AS WELL AS THE NORMAL EXCESS FOR A CLAIM.

I have always been most satisfied with the service from IntegriSure. However, my one side of my double door fridge gave in. I have householders insurance and thought that I would be able to claim for the fridge. However, I was informed that I had to pay in R2000 for the excess, which was fine, as well as ANOTHER R2000 for LOADSHEDDING!! This extra R2000 is non-negotiable.

I was informed that it was put in with the new excess amounts in the policy, however, I did not realise that is was an extra R2000. I informed the broker that I would be cancelling policy, as I felt that such a huge increase, and being another second excess, should have been sent in a separate letter to all householder policyholders, not snuck in to the policy.

I feel that it is wrong to charge the policyholders for the loadshedding, as we as citizens have no control over the Eskom debacle. I have cancelled my entire policy and will not be taking out another householder policy with any other insurer, until I have researched this further. IS IT EVEN LEGAL? I wish to find out.

Has any other policyholders come across this double whammy? Please advise.
