Disappointed Warranty Claim from InsureAfrica
I have an extended Warranty (including Top-up) with InsureAfrica on my Mahindra Scorpio 2.2 Bakkie. I recently had a problem with my bakkie where the Alternator packed up and had to be replaced. I took the bakkie to an autolec company. They found that this particular alternator has a small oil pump at the back, it is part of the alternator, the shaft of the alternator extends into the oil pump to drive the oil pump, the alternator and oil pump IS A UNIT. To replace the alternator it comes as a UNIT with the oil pump, you don't get them separate! They found that the Alternator was damaged due to oil that leaked into the alternator because of the seal between the alternator and pump parts that broke. The Autolec Company sent their quote and diagnosis through to InsureAfrica. Then I had to send proof of service to InsureAfrica before they register the claim. We sent them the proof of service. Then InsureAfrica rep****; "Please note the cause of failure is not covered by the policy. The following clause was app**** "Contamination by any foreign body entering or blocking the cooling elements and mechanical or electrical system" We then supp**** InsureAfrica with photos as proof that it was not foreign contamination from an external source; it is the oil that is inside the UNIT that leaked from the pump side to the alternator because the seal (that cannot be checked or maintained) broke. Even after supplying all the documentation and photos as proof, I was informed that my claim was unsuccessful and they stick with their abovementioned reason. I am now faced with a bill of about R9000 and a bakkie that does not run. I must also tow the bakkie from the Autolec Company. I have brought this matter under your attention due to the fact that I believe I am not getting the service that is due to me. This is an enormous inconvenience to me and unforeseen financial burden as I need my Bakkie to go to work and perform certain duties.
