Misleading sell tactics
As a 1st time buyer I went to InspectaCar gezina, where I didn’t know lying was a sells strategy. When walking in I found a sells person who I explained to how much my budget was and they then asked if it’s cash or financed so I said cash and we went around looking for cars, finally found a 2014 Golf 7 which is above my price range right so I ask the sells person what’s the best price he could sell the car for? Which he then asked how much can I afford? I stayed with the warranty included R230000. The sells person calls this young Indian guy maybe my age or younger to confirm the R230000 price cash with the warranty included. Please understand that I have heard negotiations are possible when buying a car, these conversations happen before I test drove the car as well. After the younger Indian guy agrees I check the car and ask for a test drive. The sells person goes to get the keys and the warranty docs to show me what’s included in the R230000. Test driver goes great and I give them my finance reference number that has a total of R250000, the lady helping me says cool so what is the car price and we would need to add a warranty to this car price and our service cost which brings the total to R242000 roughly and that’s the deal because the car is being financed and not a cash price, so I explained to her that this is the conversation I had with the young Indian guy and he agreed to R230000, so the lady calls the guys they talk in the passageway and the guy tells the lady he agreed in error, he wasn’t aware it would be so much money discounted but she should forget what he said and continue with the R242000 because if I don’t want to they can still sell the car to someone. The lady with a straight face came back and said Eish he said there’s no way he could have agreed to this and forgets the in error part.
I then ask to speak to the Indian guy again and as we talking outside he says to me sorry I didn’t know it would be this high amount but how much can you afford? I told me the instalments that came with the agreed amount from the bank. This is what really upset me he turns and says “ but the additional amount is just 200 more a month” so I asked him on whose budget as we agreed and can’t change the amount just because you agreed in error as I was at that dealership for 2 hours and this is all happening they are still getting the car ready.
I asked to speak to a manager who was another Indian guy who started the conversation with let’s forget what they said cause you talking to me now. He stated just because he agreed to an amount doesn’t mean anything as I have the option to not get these add on when buying cash but for finance the amount needs to have these warranty and all. I then said the conversation at the beginning was how much can I buy the car for with the warranty R230000 the service cost would be additional so like your service plan their fees. This manager continued to tell me that is doesn’t matter why I stayed for 2hrs what matters in the end result that it’s too much money to discount so if I don’t like it I can leave. So I left To think I was referred by the FNB app to try this dealership is embarrassing, to be treated that way as a 1 time buyer 😡🤯
