Stay Clear

When my BMW came to the end of its maintenance plan (the 5 years and 100 000km were reached almost at the same time), I decided to keep the vehicle since it was still an exceptionally good condition. To protect myself I opted for an extended warranty, instead of extending the maintenance plan. Although I looked at several options, I selected the extended warranty provided by BMW. The policy document even stated: “The BMW Group Extended Warranty Cover”. Now, just over a year into the warranty, I experienced a turbo failure and had to get the vehicle collected and taken to my closest BMW. During the December holidays, I heard a slight humming noise from the back my vehicle and reported this to BMW as well. After diagnosis by BMW, both the turbo and the differential had to be replaced, and the claim was submitted to Innovation Group. The extended warranty has little to do with BMW but was under scribed by Innovation Group. Initially there were some discussions with BMW, but in the end both items were to be replaced under the extended warranty. Due to an obscure clause in the contract that states if two or more failures occurred simultaneously, they will only cover the more expensive failure. The failures did not occur simultaneously, but Innovation Group refused to cover both items. Should I have decided to report the differential at a later stage, they would have covered both, but since I reported it at the same time, they refused. Even after escalating the issue to a more senior level (Antoinette Howard) and a telephone conversation clearly explaining the failures did not occur at the same time, the claim for both items were rejected. All I can say is stay away from this company. If you already have an extended warranty with them, make sure you report any issues separately and at least a few weeks apart if possible. They are ********* in their dealings and clearly will innovate any way to get out of their obligation to pay the cover that you think you paid for. I cannot believe that BMW associate themselves with this company.
