"Guaranteed" delivery? Meaningless.

Independent Newspapers promises “guaranteed” delivery. That if non-delivery is reported early enough, a subscriber will still get delivery. But it seems that they don’t know the definition of “guaranteed”. As a subscriber for decades, I don’t recall ever getting an explanation on any occasion of non-delivery. Despite my requests for follow-up and feedback. Only later calls to check if there has been delivery on later days.

My next-door neighbour also gets the Saturday Star, and as delivery is done at post boxes at the top of our street, we take it in turns to fetch both papers. However on 9 July he told me that a newspaper was in his box but not mine. I reported this at about 8h20 and was given the usual assurance that it would be delivered.

That never happened, as has been the case many times over the many years. But this time, I decided for the first time to pursue the answer to my question: “Why did I not get “guaranteed delivery”, despite reporting the non-delivery early?” A simple question.

More than four weeks and several telephone calls and emails later, I’m still waiting for an answer. My follow-up telephone calls and emails are just being totally ignored. The only response was to confirm that I had received a credit for that non-delivery. (There has of course never ever been any compensation for the time and cost of having to drive to find a newspaper.)

It’s not a difficult question, but there has been absolutely no attempt to give me an answer. That‘s both discourteous, and atrocious customer service.
