Wrong advice cost us a LOT of money and we are no better off.
My wife needed a new laptop for work, as her one was struggling to keep up. The most important consideration was to future proof it as much as possible, as it is a big investment. My no.1 priority was to have 16Gb RAM, as her requirements were almost pushing her current 8Gb to the limit. We had a laptop in mind from their website and went to the Waterfront shop to see it. It was not available. The salesman showed us a couple of options, but I was unsure about the RAM upgradability (they only had 8Gb). He went off to find out. Then returned, and assured us one of them was upgradeable. Even though I had to buy 16 and "throw away" the 8. Based on this "assurance", my wife spent R2000 more than she had planned to, with the RAM cost still to be factored in. I later bought 16Gb RAM, almost another R1000, but discovered there is nowhere/noway to replace the RAM! So my wife has a machine that is not far off maximum usage already and is hardly future proof now... How soon before this is a problem, and then what?? We have to go and buy another laptop again... having already spent her planned amount + R3000! For what? I am furious - because we were misinformed, after diligent inquiry to make sure this complete stuff-up didn't happen in the first place, yet here we are... with no solution apart from great further expense, much sooner than should have been the case. I sent feedback to the shop about this but was completely ignored. That is an insult to the injury. Thanks a lot for taking our money and thus only making our situation worse, and then not even acknowledging it.
