unskilled salesmen or skilled technicians. Which do you think?

Needed to return an Apple pencil. Stopped working after 4 months. The salesman in store stated they come with no warranties and had I wanted one, I should have bought at the Apple store. Then he changed his mind and said it does come with a warranty.
