Gift cards cannot be used online

Incredible Connection issued me with a gift card to compensate for poor customer service. When I tried using it online today (in the section: APPLY GIFT CARD), it wouldn't work. When I called Customer Service, I was told that physical gift cards couldn't be used online, only in store. How does that work? So, you can only use gift cards bought online for online purchases, and physical gift cards in store.
