I purchased a laptop on 24/05/2025. As I was paying and was given the laptop, I asked, How do I know if the laptop I am being given does not have any cracks, etc. The store manager opened the laptop using a key and showed me that the laptop is in great condition, and she gave me the receipt. On Sunday afternoon 26/05/2025, I am returning the laptop, as my husband has decided to rather fix his. Now I am told I have to pay a 15% fee of R35999.85 handling fee as the laptop seal being opened.
1. I did not open the seal; the store manager did. 2. I was not told of this 15% before she opened the seal. 3. She wants to charge me 15% mentioned on the receipt, which she gave me after opening the box. 4. Also, the receipt does not speak of a seal being opened, constituting 15%. It says only if the packaging is not in its original form, which is not the case here. Everything is still as it was bought; I had not touched the laptop for me to be paying for a handling. When I spoke to the store manager in this regard, she is still demanding 15%, which I do not understand, as I did not open the laptop nor did she advise of the fee when she opened the laptop.
I find it unfair that I must be charged R3599 when I did not open the seal and was not told of the 15% before opening the laptop. I am really unhappy and looking for the consumer protection ombudsman details, I really feel this manager is abusing her and exploiting me as I have not done anything wrong.
