Beware - Check the Terms of the Extended Warranty

I purchased a Lenovo G5070 I3 for my son for his university studies. I knew he would be carrying the laptop to and from campus, so although it was a financial stretch, I took out the extended warranty when it was offered to me. Yesterday, the laptop screen cracked, and while the computer works fine, there is a coloured line across the screen. We took it to Incredible Connection to be assessed, and as I expected, the LCD screen is damaged and since this is not covered under the warranty, I will need to arrange and pay for the repair. This was part of the terms of the contract, and I have absolutely no problem with this.

The shock was that I was informed that the extended warranty is now void because the laptop has been damaged - even though it is just a small screen crack. Why was this not explained to me when I took out the extended warranty? I am extremely disappointed - especially as the service from Incredible Connection has been excellent up until this point.
