Imperial & Ukhamba Community Development Trust

Imperial & Ukhamba Community Development Trust is an NGO company, sponsored by Imperial. How the company works is that it has a trust that sponsors it whenever they building new libraries to government schools. The problem is how they treat their employees, employees who work as librarians, yes with minimum qualification of only matric certificate but the workload is too much with little salary. Starting salary is R4000 a month, yet the job description entails everything a teacher does. We teach grades 1-7 (show me teacher does that) , they expect miracles , we clean, host competition , after school activities, sports on Saturdays. Not to mention absurd working hours from 7:15am to 16:00pm and on Saturdays it is 8:00am to 13:00pm. We not allowed to get sick, nor go to the clinic unless you do it after 2,because they say you affecting 'their reading program' . Another thing they do not care about our safety as employees, for instance when schools are closing, and all learners have left,we expected to work until 16:00pm , all by ourselves, no teachers , sometimes no security guards. Bare in mind that by that time there is absolutely nothing to be done, no learners to be looked after,just the damn library, because if you do leave , the alarm will report that a certain school left before time. This shows how little they care about our safety, often times we report cases where people just come knocking at the door , pretending to be looking for learners ,but nothing is being done. Again we are not allowed to apply for annual leave, nor study leave, when schools are closed, they find something to be done, some books to covered, some activities to take place. The only time we get off, which they say it is our 15 days annual leave is in the December holidays. The study leave you get on the days you writing your exams. Another thing there is no correct procedure for employee grievances , many employees are not happy but are scared to talk . Salary increase percentage is not equal,some got 7.5% , others 7%. Everything in this company is like a circus.
