Unprofessional, *************, Uncooperative - Not worth it
Hi there.
I would like to share my experience (really bad experience) purchasing a car from Imperial Toyota Randburg.
I found a VW Golf 6 for sale from them and they brought the car around my office so I could view it. Everything seemed fine also advertised as one owner, full service history, no accidents etc. which is true. But there were some small issues/repairs to be done before delivery which Toyota agreed to do and on their expense.
Most importantly, it was due for a service (Toyota agreed to have it serviced), windscreen replacement, 1 hub cap cover was missing and the rear wiper cap was missing, and a small scratch on the front bumper that will be repaired.
On the day I went to collect the car and sign the contracts etc, they tried to deliver the car to me without it being serviced as promised, the hub cap was still missing and the spray work on the bumper was horrible (seemed like some back yard job) bubbles/water-like marks/rough texture and bad overspray on the grill and even around the VW badge.
I should not have taken delivery of the car that day, but I did, but made them promise to repair the spray-work (which should have been done properly from the start), order a hub cap and service the car at a VW service center.
So after a week or so, they collected the car for all the work to be done and in this week I also noted a grinding noise on the brakes (When just driving not breaking) and the salesperson agreed to have VW check it out when they service the car. When I got it back, the spray work was improved (only Buffed and polished I assume) but still not what I expected, but I decided I could live with it. The car was serviced at a VW and the reply from Toyota about the breaks question was, VW said all is normal so I trust all is well.
The second day driving the car after I got it back from Toyota, the dashboard went a bit crazy and after that no lights worked, no indicator, breaks, park lights nothing and after phoning Toyota at 5pm, they said there is nothing they could do now, and I had to drive the car home in this (dangerous) state, no break lights, no indicators on the highway midrand to pretoria :(
The next day the car was completely dead, electronics were dead. No dashboard lights, no message nothing. It took Toyota more than a week (car standing in my companies parking) to collect the car, and on the day they did come and collect the car, they had to return not twice, but 3 times to load the car because of sending inadequate equipment / trailers to load the car onto. Somewhere in that next week they returned the car and stated, the blamed VW on washing the engine that the electronic box got wet, but they replaced the box. (But I did not receive any invoice/receipt/warranty on this repair) and requested the document/warranty on this part from Toyota and they agreed to have it sent to me - I never received it...
During all of this, I requested multiple times, from salesperson to the dealer principal to take te car back and refund me, because I don't feel comfortable with this car especially because of the electronics problem which is often not an easy fix, but they ignored all such requests.
The car was fine for about 2 months after that, still the grinding noise on the breaks though.
Yesterday, after work, tried to start the car again, and same thing, electronics went crazy a moment, then electronics dead again. No dashboard lights, no messages, no reaction to ignition key turn, just dead. This is the same recurring issues. This will be an endless loop of stress/irritation/danger to me and can not continue in this way.
I would like Toyota to take back this car, refund me so I can find a working car, it can't go on like this. Since I paid for this car, It must have been more than a month in total that I was unable to drive it either because of standing in my office parking not being collected by Toyota, or repairs. In this time you are paying for the car, it's insurance and have extra expenses on Gautrain trips etc. which is completely unreasonable after just buying a car from an supposed to be exceptional dealership.
(PS. there is really a lot more negative feedback I can give about the interaction with Toyota team at Imperial Randburg in terms of their communication and un-willingness to assist and not sticking to what the promise over the phone).
