******* ELECTRICITY DISCONNECTION

******* electricity cut-off...

My electricity is cut-off due to account in arrears. I called on the 14th of January 2019 them to enter into an agreement with them and I was told I cannot make an arrangement other than paying with 7 days. I informed them that the only time I can only make a payment on the 25th of January 2019. I was then told the matter will be referred to the debt collectors, mind you the account has only been in arrears for 22 days. In the absence of alternative arrangement, I accepted that my account will be handed over. Yesterday 22nd January 2019 I received a call from their debt collectors, asking if I have made the payment, I informed that I have told the IHS people that I can only pay on the 25th Of January 2019. To my surprise when I got home, the electricity is switched off, wen I call the debt collectors they confirmed that they switched off the electricity.

I reviewed my lease agreement and I could not find any clause that stipulates that if the account is in arrears, the electricity will be switched off. The agreement only states that in the event there is an amount not paid on time, the Landlord will be entitled to claim interest thereon at the prime rate as prescribed by the Landlord's bank plus 2%(Two percent) per month for the period that the amount remain unpaid.
