Phone returned as irrepairable for cracked screen

I handed in my phone for a replacement screen on 6 March 2015 at Ifix Canal Walk. Only to be told a day later that my phone is irrepairable as something was affected on the motherboard and for this reason my battery keeps draining. I then collected the phone (not repaired), the phone was returned without the home screen button. I tested the phone, only to find the phone was still working even though the screen was damaged and the battery life was normal as it should have been. When i received the message from them saying the phone was irrepairable, and after calling the store and the store assistant said that it definitely not be repaired, i went an purchased a new phone After spending thousands on a new Iphone , i took my damaged Iphone back to Ifix and told them to replace the screen and missing home screen button. I paid R800 for the repair job and the phone is as good as new. So why was i told that the phone could not be repaired in the first place? They did not even apologise for the inconvenience. I had to drive up and down. i spent thousands on a new phone, now i am sitting with two iphones both in working condition. I think their technicians should do a proper job.
