Customer exploitation
On Friday the 15th March 2019 I went to wefix waterfront to have my iphone 6 battery replaced. A young lady assessed the phone and everything was in order, home screen button working because it was recently replaced, hence there was a swift button on the screen which we had no knowledge of any way to remove. A few minutes later i received a call from the assistant informing me that the home screen button was not working and I was asked whether they should still go ahead with the battery replacement and it will cost an extra r500 to replace it. I went to the store and asked her what was the problem because I could not hear her clearly on the phone. She told me that the button was not working. I told her that she knew the button was working because she assessed the phone. She then said "yes, she knows and the technician did not touch the phone". I told her I want my phone fixed and I'm not paying for the button. The battery alone costs r400. I left and returned a few minutes later because I received an SMS stating my phone is ready for collection. I asked to speak to the manager upon my return as I was still upset. The manager asked me what the problem was and I told her, " how would you feel if you brought your phone for a battery replacement and you know your button was working and all of a sudden it no longer works" would you not be upset and think that this is a customer exploitation because now you have to pay a extra r500. The manager told me that she will have to refer this matter to the head manager who would be available tomorrow (Saturday) between 8-5pm. I then returned to the store to collect my phone because I left it there. I was advised by another assistant to leave it there. The manager whom I came to see was not present. The technician then spoke to me and said that before he even started working on the phone he noticed my button was not working hence he told the assistant to call me and inform me about it. I once again restated my position that the button was previously replaced, the assistant assessed the phone and it was working. He told me he nor the assistant is to be blamed as this is a business that they run and they cannot replace it. I was furious and paid for the battery and left. The next day I emailed the manager Muammer Abraham's as I requested his details from the assistant. I informed him about my complaint and told him I am disgusted at their services, are they trying to exploit their customers. We do not know what goes on behind those closed doors. I told him that he should get back to me within 5days. Today I received an email from Muammer stating that I told the assistant that I was aware that the button was not working hence the swift button on the screen was there. He asked me whether I am being dishonest. I rep**** and told him that the button was recently replaced hence the swift button on the screen. If the button was not working why did the assistant not inform me about it upon assessment before handing the phone in. The other manager told me that sometimes the assistants are mistaken about the button working because when it reaches the technician it no longer works. I told him this is obviously on face value that I am dishonest for the swift button being on the screen. But am I and the assistant who assessed the phone mistaken for believing the button worked before it reached the technician. Could you please assist me because this is completely unfair and unjust. I want my button fixed because it was recently replaced and fixed when I handed it in, the assistant knew this. So am I being dishonest for raising this? This is so frustrating, could you please assist me. Kind regards
