HORRIBLE experience ever. I bought a bakkie at IDP Auto in Wonderboom, Pretoria in December 2025. Two months later, it had a steering rack issue and needed to be replaced. I decided to trade it in because I don't want to fix cars. On the 20th of February 2026, got another bakkie from the same dealership, IDP Auto. In May of 2026, it started overheating. Took it to their preferred RMI approved dealerships a couple of times as the issue kept reoccurring. It finally blew the gasket in July 2026. A report from another RMI approved workshop states that a poor job had been done on the engine previously. I recently got proof that the engine was opened 10 days before IDP Auto sold me the vehicle, by one of their preferred mechanics. The dealership failed to disclose this fact to me even when the vehicle kept overheating, failed to provide me with the service book proving the full service history as advertised before I bought the bakkie, failed to assist with the recovery of the vehicle even after promising to do so. The bank MFC has also failed to assist me, citing that their responsibility ends after 6 months of the purchase date, leaving me to deal with the dealership by myself even though the issues of the vehicle started barely 3 months after the purchase of the vehicle. I'm now sitting without a car while preparing for a wedding, the bank made sure to warn me against missing monthly installments. I have incurred almost R20 000 in expenses since February 2026 because I cannot even claim from my warranty without the service book. I have no idea what to do next except to wait for a response from the Ombudsman.
