Violation Of My Rights As Consumer
Review:
I am extremely disappointed with how Absa is handling my vehicle repossession case. The bank repossessed my vehicle last year, but only communicated through an email address that I had lost access to — they made no effort to contact me via phone, SMS, or post, despite having those details on record. The only time I was contacted was suddenly by the repossession agent, which came as a shock since I had no warning or prior formal notice.
When I later regained access to my affairs, I reached out to Absa and they sent me some documents explaining their version of events. However, these documents raise serious red flags, including lack of proper legal notices, failure to follow fair communication protocols, and ignoring my right to be heard or respond before drastic action was taken.
I’ve since lost access to the email where those documents were originally sent, and I’ve requested Absa to resend them to my new address so I can prepare a formal complaint to the National Credit Regulator (NCR). Their response? The same automated message over and over, saying a consultant will contact me — but nobody ever does. When I persist, they redirect me to "collections" to discuss payment, completely ignoring the real issue: how they violated my rights during the repossession process.
This feels like a deliberate tactic to frustrate me and avoid accountability.
I am not asking for anything unreasonable. All I want is for Absa to resend the documents, so I can pursue the proper channels and raise my complaint with the NCR. But they are making this process difficult on purpose, and it’s clear they are not acting in good faith.
I will continue to escalate this, and I urge anyone reading this who’s experienced similar treatment to speak out. Absa should not be allowed to hide behind automated replies when real people are being affected by their actions.
