STAY AWAY FROM ABSA HOME INSURANCE!

*** As a long standing Absa customer i am saddened to leave this review, but it will help others make better informed decisions on home insurance. Our carport structure collapsed due to the damaging winds experienced in Cape Town last week. Claim was logged with Absa and they sent out an assessor Wilcorp Pty Ltd, a company operated from a house, that has no contact numbers, no social media presence, no website, no nothing. Amateurs if you ask me. I'm glad Absa calls are recorded as i made it clear same day how unhappy i felt about the attitude of the assessor on the day as no urgency in the matter and his lackluster attitude put me off from the start. This structure covers my front door and my family and i have to pass under it to get to our front door. My question to him was what if this thing collapsed at any time on any of us? His response " i can start breaking it down myself as he already took photos". What? I must break it down myself. Why do i pay insurance then? Its been a week and nothing has changed. Today Absa informs us that the assessor reports claims that the structure was constructed incorrectly, poor workmanship, poor building materials and damage is due to normal wear and tear and not anything else. This structure would still be standing if it wasn't for the 2-3 days of abnormal, ravaging, damaging winds we experienced. There was even a weather alert sent out for 27th August 2024. Here is why Absa's argument is not strong enough for me: 1.) the carport is part of my house, been here for years, reflects on our building plan 2.) Was existing when i bought the house (so part of my house) 2.) plan for this structure and all building materials was approved by the City of Cape Town Based on the above, how can you tell me otherwise? I am yet to receive the report in writing as asked, they tell me 7-10 working days to receive a report. RIDICULOUS! no care in the world. As mentioned on my 2nd recorded call to you, I will hold Absa Home Insurance responsible for any injuries or death incurred should anything happen related to this claim. ABSA Home Insurance refuses to to get a 2nd opinion or send out a different assessor. As large an insurance company as you are, to use unprofessional contractors to make decisions for you, and then you base your decisions as final, on the words of these unprofessional, *********** contractors is appalling! Links to photos - https://ibb.co/PN3Y633 https://ibb.co/k4h25Y5 Regrettably you have made me lose faith in ABSA and all sub-divisions of ABSA in whole, as you tarnish such a reputable brand! Time to move on to a better institution. I will update my post once my letter is received...if ever! If you want a company that operates at a snails pace and disregard for your well being...choose ABSA.

Thank you for escalating the process, however I am not satisfied and would like to dispute. There is no fairness and equity as absa claims, if there was, you would have got a 2nd opinion and not just base your decision on the opinion of an amateur and unprofessional company such as Wilcorp Pty Ltd. I voiced my concern with regards to the person you sent since day one (go and listen to your recorded phone calls). If this is the type of unprofessional people you work with, then certainly I don't want to do business with Absa any longer.
I am in the process of getting 1 or 2 other reputable providers to come assess and provide a quote and 2nd opinion. I am also in the process of demolishing a part of the structure in order to make it safe for my family. Another inconvenience i have to bear thanks to what i considered a good insurance company "Absa".

Regards

Just an update- After i submitted an appeal , my claim was rejected a 2nd time. Absa still claims wear and tear avoiding the real cause of the claim at all costs which was weather related. How do you maintain a carport? They overlook the real reason the structure was brought down, which was because of the strong winds that day, even though i had 3 or more assessments done by reputable independent companies who all have the same conclusion that wind was THE CAUSE! What more do they want?

Here is proof that ABSA Home Insurance try and deploy this tactics on all their clients - READ THIS BEFORE THINKING OF SIGNING UP WITH ABSA OR CANCEL NOW TO AVOID FUTURE DISSAPOINTMENT, SOONER RATHER THAN LATER.

I am now happy to say i've submitted my cancellation with these ******* *****sters and have gone NAKED! Insurance that is :), at less than half the instalment i was initially paying and i'm covered for much more.

@ABSA HOME INSURANCE - You will end up losing much more in future than what you stole from me and my family!

Thank you Vanessa, but your generic responses are no longer welcome and do not/will not make any difference. I am no longer an Absa customer, so kindly refrain from making contact with me.
