Insurance cancelled due to claim - AVOID ABSA AT ALL COSTS

ABSA Idirect decided to cancel my insurance with out consulting me by posting a letter which I never recieved.

I have been working overseas for 2 months and eventually got a call from an agent to ask me if I received their letter so they extended my insurance by 1 month but refused to reinstate my policy due to me apparently being high risk

I have had an unfortunate 3 years where 2 years ago we were victims of a burglary, whilst we were at home, then a year ago, for the 1st time, in 11 years since we have stayed at our home, we were struck by lightning and then this year my wife had her 1st accident where she backed into my car with her car. These were the 1st claims we had in 10 years.

Since the burglary we have substantially improved our security. We did this for our safety as well as to mitigate any losses we could suffer.

We have upgraded our alarm system. We have added beams to the back and front of the house, attached the electric fence to the alarm, added spikes on top of the back wall between the electric fence and razor wire, we have added a passive infer red detector outside the backdoor covering the area that they broke into, all the windows in the house have been fitted with sensors and the front gate has a sensor.

We belong to a neighbourhood crime association who’s patrol car that patrols only our neighbourhood (60 Houses) 24 hours a day 365 days a year, that is monitored and dispatched by this company, the alarm company that monitors our alarm with a response time on average of around 3 minutes. All of this was done at a considerable cost and since we have implemented these measures we have had no burglaries.

Total claims in 3 years were less than R60 000. Plus the claiming experience was horrible. They treat you like you were the ********* and tried their hardest to find any reason repudiate parts of my claim. I had to fight hard to et them to pay me out.

Yet still ABSA feel we are a too a high risk even though we have paid in more than we have claimed.

Seems that they will only insure you if you don't claim. Glad to be rid of them and they have done me a favour by cancelling my insurance.
