Don't insure with ABSA
I logged a storm damage claim with Absa Insurance and they said that they would sent a company to assess the damage. A couple of days later 2 women and 2 men pitched up in an old skorokoro bakkie, 3 in front and one at the back with the ladder. They all came into the house, I showed them where the water came in and both ladies took photos of the damage. We then climbed onto the roof, the 2 men, myself and one of the ladies, and I showed them where the water leaks could be. They could also see where I previously sealed the IBR roof with silver A.b.e Waterproof Tape, as well as where I rubberized the perspex roof sheeting inlay that the previous owner installed. It was so well rubberized that one of the men couldn't distinguish between the IBR and perspex, stepped on the perspex and almost left a hole. The lady stood on the other side of the fire wall while taking her photos and didn't see the area up close. They then left and said that they would submit the report. Today when I called Absa, after not hearing anything back for 2 weeks, they let me know that the claim was rejected as I didn't "maintain the roof". Nowhere that I sealed was the problem of the damage and I climb on every year to inspect the roof and clean gutters. I pay a premium of almost R6,000, why, when they can't even send a reputable company to do the assessment! I think it's time to switch insurance!
