Complaint for unauthorised debiting of account for a lapsed policy
Absa Insurance has been debiting my account for a policy that lapsed in March 2024, to which a lapse notice was also sent. The insurance company would successfully debit the account and send a lapse notice thereafter.
I walked-in at the Phalaborwa branch to inquire which insurance was debiting my account. The lady simply showed me the phone and advised to call absa insurance as she would know which division of the insurance was debiting.
I did as advised and phoned Absa insurance to which i have been sent from pilar to post while trying to establish which department was debiting my account. I eventually etablished that Absa Idirect was the one debiting my account. I sent emails to request debit order reversal, which was rejected as they do not reverse inbound debit orders (Ref: C-***9) and was advised to contact Idirect.
I contacted Idirect and also sent emails to which I am still awaiting response from a consultant (Ref: C-***0).
I also proceeded to call the complaints department to which I am also awaiting response (Ref: C-***7) and indicated they will contact me within 8 hours, to which I am still awaiting call back.
I am discontent about the number of unauthorised and inconsistent debit orders from Absa Insurance going off my account and the pursuit to resuscitate a policy that has lapsed without an instruction to do so.
I am also discontent about the abuse of access to my account just because I bank at the same bank where as my previous insurer. The total debited from my account for three consecutive months is at least R 19 581.00.
I am now forced to move my salary and debit orders to another just to avoid the inconvenience by Absa Insurance (Idirect).
