Claim Rejected Without Any Assessment
ABSA Home Insurance appointed an assessor to handle our claim, but to our disbelief, no assessment or inspection of the property was ever done. Despite this, we were notified that our claim would not be covered — based on the assessor's supposed findings.
How is it acceptable for a claim to be rejected without anyone even setting foot on the property? This is deeply concerning and reflects a lack of transparency and fairness in the claims process. We expect ABSA to conduct due diligence and provide clear justification based on actual assessments — not assumptions.

It’s been 7 days since my initial post. I’ve received a few phone calls — yet still no concrete results. Now it seems the blame is subtly shifting to me for not being available when the contractor is? Really?
Suddenly there’s urgency to get the assessment done — and that’s appreciated, thank you ABSA. But there’s still no explanation as to how or why the original claim was rejected. The only response I’ve received so far is: “Sorry, we don’t know.”
Is that really acceptable in 2025? A simple “we don’t know” after months of waiting? For the record, this has been dragging on since January 2025. The lack of accountability and clear communication is extremely disappointing.

It’s now been 14 days since my initial post. I’ve had a few phone calls — but still no real progress or resolution.
A new assessor did get in touch, which seemed like a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, I was then told that they can’t assist at any of the times the household is available. So, it feels like we’re right back at square one.
To make things worse, none of my follow-up emails have been responded to.
And still — no explanation whatsoever has been given for why the claim was initially declined in the first place. Just silence.
Great service, ABSA.
Lets have a look at ABSA's core values and how This Contradicts ABSA’s Core Values
1. Customer Obsession
ABSA claims to put the customer at the center of everything they do — yet I’ve experienced the opposite. No follow-up, no urgency, no clear communication, and certainly no resolution.
2. Stewardship
Stewardship implies accountability and responsible management. My claim was declined without explanation, and no one can tell me why — that’s the opposite of responsible or transparent service.
3. Resourcefulness
Being resourceful means finding ways to solve problems. After months, I’m still stuck in the same loop with assessors not being available when the household is, and no one making an effort to find workable solutions.
4. Courage
Owning up to mistakes or shortcomings takes courage. So far, all I’ve received is “Sorry, we don’t know” — not a single person has taken ownership or provided a proper answer.
5. Empowerment
Empowerment is about enabling people to make decisions and help clients effectively. But it seems no one at ABSA is empowered to resolve issues or even respond to emails.

26 Apr 2025, 13:05Over 4 Months Later – Still No Clarity
It’s now been over 4 months since this process started in January 2025. I’ve had a few phone calls — but still no real progress or resolution.
A new assessor did get in touch, which seemed like a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, I was then told that they can’t assist at any of the times the household is available. So, it feels like we’re right back at square one.
Eventually, an assessment was done — and now the claim has been rejected due to so-called poor maintenance.
However, there is still no explanation as to why the claim was initially rejected before any assessment even took place.
It makes one seriously question whether ABSA simply pre-determines if they will assist a client or not — regardless of the facts.
New update:
Given the clear lack of service, I decided to move to another insurance provider. I sent my cancellation emails on the 16th of this month — and unsurprisingly, no reply has been received. I also tried contacting my private banker... Same story. No response.
It’s clear that ABSA's values of Customer Obsession, Stewardship, and Resourcefulness are just marketing slogans, not principles they actually uphold.
