Claim no: *** (Still no Written Report)
The evening 23 Oct 2021, my carport/awning was damaged due to severe wind storm the +/- 400kg structure flipped damaging the gutter and roof tiles. It was weekend and could not get hold of absa insurance, on Monday 25 October phoned absa and they advised to sumbit claim only which was done successfully. The following day received a phone call from absa spoke to a extremely helpful staff member in cape Town who arranged for a inspector to come and assess damage on 28 October. On the 28th when assessor came he completely ignored the gutter and roof quoting 'awning is major damage and it will be simple/ straight forward claim, let's not complicate things'. An that I should just whatsapp him the pictures I took on the day of the incident. Witnin 3 minutes he took pictures standing about 200m away from material (beams, sheets, ect) that was removed on weekend and said ok it simple claim but since looting happened they a delay so claims should take 3-4 weeks. Once he left I sent him the pictures on whatsapp as he requested and decided to Google his company information to identify they only do carports and awnings that's why totally ignored the gutter and roof. Spoke to wife who told me to leave it and not send through a complaint. On 18 November, over 3 weeks later got a call from absa insurance agent saying claim was rejected due to structure not been maintained, wear and tear of beams and pillars, not correct nuts and bolts ( like any small wind or push could of flipped a 400kg structure). The agent went on to say she once she ends the call she will forward me the report and forms to start a dispute. It's been almost a week and after sending 2 emails still have not received the report or forms to start a dispute.
Paying absa insurance 500 rand a month for the past 2 years for peace of mind, yet this is one insurance that shows no compassion to its clients and try push the blame on the owner. The structure was present when inspected the house, gave me my bond and insurance figures. They can magically prove when maintenance done or not.( Trying to to figure what maintence they expect the owner to do on a ***** and beams). Now just waiting for the report so can send through my dispute, after reading so many complaints by others, I definitely won't be just leaving this matter. On the cherry on top of what an amazing insurance company absa is, yesterday got email to say insurance premium increasing. To collect money they amazing to pay/help clients will make you run in circles.
