BEWARE: ABSA Insurance uses *********** contractors, so they can decline clients claims
I put through a claim to Absa insurance on the 08/10/2024 for my roof, as it was leaking, due to the heavy rain. Absa Insurance sent out their own contractor on the 09/10/2024.From the time the Absa contractor stepped out of the vehicle and stepped on to his ladder, I got the feeling he was sent by Absa insurance to look for reasons to decline the claim. As he was on the roof, he was shouting out, who put this waterproof on the roof and that Absa is not going to accept the claim, as he claims it is wear and tear and negative stuff like that. First of all, I did not put any waterproof on the roof, as it was done by the previous owner. Secondly a contractor's job is to come to the client's home, take photos and give a quote to the insurance, not come to my home and look at the roof and make negative comments and say that ABSA is going to decline the claim. It was like it was predetermined that my claim was going to be declined by ABSA insurance. I had to call ABSA insurance several times, before they informed me the claim was declined. I want my roof repaired, using another contractor. If my roof is not repaired, I am going to open a case with the ombudsman and take it further if needed be, as I think ABSA is sending out *********** contractors to client's homes to look for reasons not to pay out claims. ABSA is being unprofessional and very sneaky.

The claim is rejected for the following reason(s):Defective workmanship.During the assessment of your claim, we established the following:It was found that a portion of the retaining wall has collapsed. There is no reinforcement installed to stabilize thestructural integrity of the wall. Furthermore, it was found that there was no provision made for drainage on thewall. Therefore, the damage to the wall has occurred gradually due to defective workmanship
So me ,who works in the finance department, I must have knowledge of a civil engineer and a plumber, before I buy a house, just in case Durban is hit with a natural disaster. I will know if my house and also all the walls around my house can withstand it,by doing calculations that qualified civil engineer do. I never built this house, nor was I living here for 20 or 30 years from when it was built , how would I have knowledge about the retaining wall in my back yard? Why am I getting punished for the previous owners mistakes?is that fair? We live in a world or shall I say we live in South Africa , where big companies like Absa can get away with ****** because they have alot money and me an average Joe, who is just getting over the month with my salary, get punished because a big company like Absa can flex it's financial muscle and just reject claims because no one will stand up for the average joe, we fighting our own battles in South Africa and companies like Absa making life harder for us, as South Africa's climate is changing and natural disasters is occurring all the time and destroying our homes.Insurance companies like Absa who we pay our our premiums honestly every month, who promise to be with us in tough times, just turn their backs on us and kick us when we down.

This is the second case you told me you're investigating and that you get back to me.the first one is with the ombudsman. Today you send me with a rejection again. You do this ,to show in the public eye , that absa is fair and you are really investigating and trying to help the client. When in fact you not. Please look at all the rejected claims by Absa to clients and people will know the truth. Absa insurances is a wolf in sheep clothing.
