Absa is the worst Building Insurance ever!
Our building has been insured with Absa for more than 13 years. On 7 February 2020 there was a huge storm in Krugersdorp. Our entire house was under water. Luckily we have tiles throughout the entire house except in the 4 bedrooms where there are fitted carpets. These carpets where damaged due to the rain that came through underneath the doors. Our main bedroom ceiling collapsed due to this heavy storm. We lodged a claim with Absa on 10 February 2020 and after numerous calls to them to obtain feedback, I was informed today (2 weeks later) that the claim was rejected due to a lack of maintenance. It seems like this is the trend with Absa, as Absa rejects all claims that were caused due to an Act of Nature and their reason for rejection is a lack of maintenance. I phoned again today and was holding on for more than 30 minutes, in order for them to send the rejection letter to myself so that I can take the matter further. After 30 minutes holding the line, I was advised that now the claim cannot be rejected because the assessor did not take photos of the roof and will have to come back to take photos of the roof. We have been inconvenienced for 2 weeks now and we still do not have an answer or even authorization for the repairs. This is all due to the incompetency from Absa’s assessor. Why did the assessor not do a proper assessment the first time round? We still have no ceiling in our main bedroom and our carpets have a musty smell. Currently it is raining again in Krugersdorp and therefore we do not have the means to mitigate our damages as our ceiling has still not been replaced. We are not even sure, if the claim will be authorized if the assessor comes out for a second time to take photos of the roof? We will definitely cancel our policy with Absa after a decision has been reached on this claim. This is the worst service that I have ever experienced in my life and will definitely not recommend anyone to take out insurance with Absa. I expect this matter to be resolved by close of business Tuesday, 25 February.
