Absa Home Insurance Are ****** (>20 years of building insurance & they refuse to pay for anything)

We received terrible treatment from Absa Building Insurance on 2 occasions recently. In December 2023 we were away from home. Upon our return, we found the ceiling in 1 of the rooms on the floor, with cracks running through different parts of the house after what seemed like high wind speeds weather. We then submitted a claim to Absa Home Insurance, which they declined citing that this damage is not covered as it was not caused by 1 incident (in this case i'm assuming unfavourable weather). Sibusiso Mafanya was allocated claims consultant and not once did we hear from him/her, apart from in an email where s/he claimed to have attempted contacting which he did not. Absa put the burden of finding a professional structural engineer, whose services do not come cheap, to do an assessment and write a report which would validate our claim. After having diligently paid building insurance for over 20 years, Absa treated us like with the most despicable sense of inconsideration. The damage that was caused by the wind on the roof, has since worsened.

In another similar incident, we recently experienced an internal wall pipe leakage. Rofhiwa Magadani was the assigned claims consultant. Not once has this person tried to contact us. S/he ignored every single email sent with enquiries and evidence. Absa appointed an *********** plumber who misdiagnosed the problem and claimed that it was an outlet pipe that was leaking, meanwhile a large portion of the outside wall was drenched in water. Once again, they put the burden of finding a plumber that could do pipe leakage detection & ended up settling the claim with a measly R3000. In this economy, how far can R3000 get you when doing building repairs? More than 20 years of paying building insurance & this is how Absa saw it fit to assist.

Reviewer Update
We are currently sitting with broken walls after we called in a plumber who was immediately able to tell us where the leak was (not the one you had sent out & told us an outlet pipe is what was leaking & soaking the outside wall in water) & was subsequently able to open up to replace the leaking internal wall pipe. The R3000 that you paid out is only enough for the plumber's labor cost for opening the wall up & no way covers any of the repairs of the wall. Please ensure that you appoint people who are able to do credible work & stop burdening us with finding our own service providers, after which you then pay out money that we can do nothing with. Your insurance claims consultants hate their jobs & this is reflected in how they lack courtesy. In your review of the matter, please consider appointing & paying someone who will repair & close up the wall with intergrity.
