ABSA does not cover you for power surges from external factors

ABSA does not cover electrical breakdowns caused by power surges due to external factors, such as issues with the national grid or lightning. Their customer service is equally frustrating that they take days to respond to emails, if they respond at all.

When you lodge a claim, they assign it to service providers in different provinces, leaving the client to follow up days later, only to discover the delay is because the allocated provider isn’t even local.

I had a claim for a gate motor damaged by a power surge during loadshedding. After they finally got the correct province and city, they sent a service provider who tried replacing the sensor, which didn’t fix the issue. I then took the board to Centurion for inspection, where they confirmed the board was damaged, most likely from the surge during the loadshedding weekend. Their detailed report was submitted to ABSA.

When I bought a new board from Centurion, their technician came to install it and discovered the original service provider hadn’t even reinstalled the sensor correctly. So, not only does ABSA provide poor service, but they also contract *********** service providers to handle claims.

To top it off, when I called the call center about the claim rejection, I was told ABSA would disregard the Centurion report and rely solely on the flawed assessment from the *********** service provider.
