Given clothes as gift so no slip store wont refund

My aunt a 80yr old came to Nelspruit for a visit and bought me 2 items of clothing - in fact someone else probably did it for her as she can barely walk. The items of clothing aren't my style so took them back to Identity. I was told I had to call my aunt to get the slip. She lives 400km away plus I cant be so rude as to ask for a slip. Surely as with other retailers there must be some policy to protect the consumer if they have no slip but the tags are on the item.. I think it grossly unfair that I be expected to keep R500 clothes that look aweful on me just because of no slip. Surely many people misplace their slips and can still return goods. I have in the past returned items at both Truworths and Woolworths who are in the same holding group , so why are Identity so unreasonable ???

Hello estelle@j,

Thank you for your post. We value your feedback and the opportunity to respond.

At Identity, one of the conditions of our Returns Policy is that, in order to facilitate an effortless exchange or return, all unsuitable merchandise, including gifts, must be returned with the original invoice or gift receipt. Our Returns Policy is fair to all our customers, since a gift receipt can be requested at the time of purchasing the gift as the price of the item is masked.

We have liaised with the relevant Store Manager, and as you were not in possession of any proof of purchase, you were correctly advised that your exchange/return could not be authorized.

Should you be able to provide us with any additional information regarding the purchase of the item, the store will gladly assist you by searching for our copy of the invoice.

Kind regards,

Chevola
