HYUNDAI UMHLANGA- DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS DEALERSHIPS

We bought a vehicle and in less than 3 months it’s was literally a ground helicopter, that’s how bad the sound was. We contacted the service department at Umhlanga and they said it’s normal to hear that sound, we also mentioned that the reverse gear is not selecting…the guy explained that with “these” cars you need to put it into 1st and 2nd gear and then into reverse, what he didn’t know is that we were not going to just settle for his unclear explanation. We insisted on booking the vehicle in. We took the car to the dealership, the guy took it for a test drive and immediately said that sound is not normal and that it’s a wheel bearing noise. We left the car at the dealership on Wednesday, 22nd February 2023.

Bear in mind that this vehicle was bought as a pre requisite for the scope of my new employment and that this vehicle is used on a daily basis to travel to other areas such as PMB, Toti, Ladysmith etc.

Wednesday- No contact from anyone regarding the status of the vehicle, so we called in that afternoon and they had no confirmed findings. So we were kind enough to accept and leave the vehicle overnight thus allowing them time to run diagnostics early the next morning.

Thursday - we allowed them the whole morning. No contact despite confirming that we would be contacted by midday. We called in at 13h53, spoke to Andrew who updated us by confirming that they were busy striping the gearbox and that we will be contacted the next day with an update.

Friday - no contact or update until 17h12, Andrew called to update us as follows: 1 - there’s major issues with the gearbox 2 - car has a mileage of 5000kms 3 - he has had cars with 200000kms that have never had a problem like this 4 - his only conclusion was that it is a factory fault as this is a fairly new vehicle 5 - they will order the part but the downside is that it would take between 14 to 21 days for the part to arrive

We went to the dealership on Saturday 25th February 2023 to speak to the dealer principal, Anthea who to this date is still arranging a loan vehicle and trying to find a replacement vehicle as that was one of our options. But I am fully aware of the delay tactics hence I have now opted to take this matter further legally as we are paying an instalment for a vehicle that is not in our possession and more so for a vehicle that we owned for less than 3 months which had a factory fault.

I’m not sure which makes me more angry the excuses, the lack of communication, the lack of customer care or the don’t give a damn attitude at this dealership!!

Well 28 days later we are still to and fro, chasing tails with the dealer principal because neither has she sourced a replacement vehicle nor has she arranged a courtesy vehicle as promised.

Adding to that, the parts have not arrived (even though we made it clear we will not accept a repaired vehicle - Section 55/56 of the CPA).

It is shocking let alone sad to realise how wonderful they can be when a sale is needed, yet behave like you are non existent after the purchase, especially when there’s an issue with a vehicle sold by them, brand new may I add!!!

By far the worst dealership I have ever dealt with!!! I will NEVER RECOMMEND HYUNDAI TO ANOTHER PERSON!!!

Think twice, read reviews…DO NOT CONCLUDE A PURCHASE WITHOUT DOING YOUR HOMEWORK.

THE DEALER PRINCIPAL HAS NO CONCERN OR CONSIDERATION TOWARDS A CUSTOMER.

I HAVE EMAILED & tried many times to resolve this amicably but we are left with no choice but to seek further legal assistance with this matter.
