Hyundai roadside assist useless!

I had a terrible experience with Hyundai Roadside assist. It was a Sunday and I stopped my car to check something in the boot that was moving around. I left the keys in my car on the front seat as the boot wouldn't open with the keys still in the ignition. When I came back to get into my car the doors were all locked. My phone was also in the car. It was also a very hot summer day on the Gold Coast in an area I had no fami****ity with. I did some door knocking for help and finally found a man at home. He kindly let me use his mobile phone to call roadside assist. The woman on the phone asked me for the Vin number. I told her I didn't know where it was, and assuming it was on the inside of the door or under the bonnet, I told her that as my keys were locked in the car I couldn't access the Vin number. I asked her if I could just give her the rego number as you do with the NRMA. She informed me that the computer system required the Vin number and that if I couldn't provide that then she couldn't help me!!!! I tried literally begging her to help, explaining I was locked out of my car over an hour away from my home in NSW. She refused. So there I was, out in the hot midday sun, locked out of my car and no roadside assistance available because I couldn't provide the Vin number!!! Fortunately, I still had my NRMA roadside assist membership and I called them - feeling bad at having to use some poor strangers' phone. The NRMA as usual were fantastic. They just needed my rego number and for me to confirm my name and they came within the hour. I actually still had my other car which was for sale registered with the NRMA and they were kind enough to allow me to use my membership for the new Hyundai even though it was not registered with them! If I had not had the NRMA membership I don't know what I would have done.

The next day I called the dealer whom I had bought the car from to complain. He explained that the Vin number is on the front windscreen. When I told him I would like to make a formal complaint he told me he would email me the customer care number, but he never did. I later checked my front window for the Vin number, and sure enough it is there. However, without my glasses which were also locked in my car there is no way I would have been able to read it as it is small!!!

So, my advice is do not give up your NRMA/RAC membership. Hyundai roadside assist is a con and totally useless.
