Constant Issues and No Support: My ********** Hyundai Brackenfell Experience

In December 2022, I purchased a pre-owned Hyundai i20 Fluid from your Hyundai Brackenfell dealership. Unfortunately, I have experienced numerous issues with this vehicle ever since my purchase.

The problems began in that very same month when the fuel gauge provided an inaccurate reading, leaving me stranded on the road twice - once on a dangerous highway where I ran out of petrol even though the gauge showed half a tank. I brought the car to your service center and was told the issue was resolved, but one week later I found myself in the same situation on the N1 highway.

After dealing with this safety hazard, I again had to bring my car back to your dealership before the fuel gauge was finally replaced. However, the issues did not end there. Around August 2023, I noticed the vehicle consuming excess oil and promptly informed your service team. After inspection, I was instructed to drive 1,000km and return for assessment. Upon returning, I was told to drive an additional 2,000km before you would analyze the oil consumption problem again.

Just before my next scheduled service this December, another serious issue emerged with the car overheating. On December 1st, 2023, I brought the i20 for routine service and emphasized that the workshop must also inspect and address the overheating problem. The service was completed on that Friday, but despite my multiple follow-up inquiries that same day and throughout the weekend to check on progress, I received no communication or updates whatsoever from your dealership.

I was informed workshops were closed on the weekend, but when I called the following Monday expecting some feedback, your staff asked if I had purchased this car from a used car dealership - which was incredibly disappointing and embarrassing considering I had bought it from your Hyundai Brackenfell branch a year prior. I have still not received any concrete updates about my vehicle which has now been in the workshop for over a week.

To make matters worse, I have not been offered any courtesy or loan car to assist with my transportation in the meantime. This has caused severe disruptions to getting to my workplace and personal appointments. On Wednesday, December 6th, after continued lack of communication from your dealership I decided to lodge an official complaint with Hyundai customer care.

I cannot express enough how unsatisfactory this entire experience has been since the very beginning, both with the recurring mechanical issues this Hyundai vehicle has posed and the terrible after-sales service displayed by your dealership in response. I was then informed that the repairs of the car are said to be R94 000k+ (a quote was sent with all the issues to be fixed) and this is a car I bought in less than a year. When I ask the dealership to give me my car back in the condition that it was when it was brought in I am told that I must pay R10 000k + for the workshop to refit back the cylinder head.
