HyperionDev Bootcamp: A Costly Lesson in Frustration and Administrative Chaos

I enrolled in HyperionDev’s full-time Data Science bootcamp on June 5th last year, lured in by their promise that “anyone—even complete beginners—can master programming.” Initially, the video lessons were informative and even inspiring, but my enthusiasm was soon shattered by a cascade of administrative nightmares and support failures.

After a family emergency forced me to switch to part-time (with an extra fee of 2500 rand), I anticipated a smooth transition. Instead, I was hit with a series of inexplicable disruptions. Even after my extension fee was processed on January 4th, I was unexpectedly locked out of my dashboard just 10 days later—only to be told to “try the trial” or re-pay for access. This wasn’t an isolated incident; it was just the beginning of a relentless pattern of issues.

The real clincher was their mentor support—or rather, the complete lack thereof. Despite paying a total of 40,000 rand for this bootcamp experience, I found that mentor calls were inaccessible for an entire week, affecting all Data Science students. My support period kept shifting without any explanation—from February 4th to the 6th, then extended to the 13th, only to be abruptly reduced to the 10th on February 10th. Such constant and unexplained alterations left me scrambling, unable to plan my studies, and feeling utterly abandoned during critical moments of learning.

Moreover, the review process, which is crucial to progressing in a bootcamp that limits task submissions to three per day, was alarmingly slow. Reviews were delayed by up to five days—stalling progress and almost making it seem as if the system was deliberately throttled. This bottleneck not only hindered my ability to complete tasks on time but also directly impacted my overall learning and eventual graduation.

For a program that boasts it’s “easy for complete beginners,” the entire experience was anything but. The curriculum itself showed promise, but HyperionDev’s repeated administrative mismanagement and erratic support completely undermined that potential. Ultimately, I was left with a disjointed, frustrating, and costly journey that did not match the lofty promises made at the outset.

In short, while HyperionDev markets itself as a gateway for those with no programming background, my experience suggests that their system is riddled with inefficiencies and poor communication. Until these issues are addressed, I cannot recommend this bootcamp to anyone looking for a reliable pathway into tech.
